Rainbow Falls descends 80 feet over a natural lava cave into the Wailuku River in Hilo, Hawaii. The cave beneath the falls is the mythological home to Hina, the ancient Hawaiian moon goddess. Rainbow falls owes much of it's beauty to the lush rain forest vegetation on the rocky walls of the gorge.

I enjoyed using bold brushstrokes in this painting to bring out detail in the thick foliage. The free fall of water into the sparkling pool is also wonderfully captured. Thank you for appreciating this gorgeous scene!
